People Ideas

For my people theme I have been researching and came across the people who take pictures of themselves everyday for years. I thought this would be a really cool idea for my project but i obviously dont have a year to do this project.

Here is an example of one of the people who do this.

If I was do to this I could do a flip book of pictures rather than a video.

Colour Mixing

Today I have been practising mixing colours. I have been trying to mix skin colours considering I am doing 'people'. I have been mixing the colours red, yellow, brown and white to create different skin tones.

After mixing the colours I applyed them to my hand to try to get the best colour possible. The best colour I got today was this one (bottom of the second finger to the left..) But skin colour has so many difficult tones so I will find it difficult to do a whole face.

People

For my 'A Tale Of Two Prints' project we have to pick two themes. The first theme I chose was house and home, for my second I have been thinking about doing people. To start me off I have been looking into Photography. My favourite type of photography is just simple portraits. I love how each photographer captures different emotions and I think David Bailey does this very well.

I have then done some more research into David Bailey and found out he does a lot of Vogue photography (fashion). I have then tried to do my own Vogue style shoot with a friend.

*photographs will be on here soon*

Going back to my emotions idea I could capture different types of emotions using photography. I have listed some emotions/feelings to give me an idea of what to capture - nervous, anxious, insecure, pleased, amazed, confused, excited, silly, lonely, envious, relaxed, jelous, happy, upset, stupid, bitter and discusted.

If I was to capture these emotions I think I would do a bold black and white portrait so that the photograph is just of the emotion. Just like Bailey, I think it has a really good effect.

My Tiles

For my final piece of my 'House and Home' theme, I decided to print on to tiles, 1 because I wanted to be more experimental and not print on to just paper. and 2 because tiles are used in 'House and Home'.

I wanted my tiles to look vintage so I have included an old fashioned camera and I have tried to colour code the tiles so they match.

At first I was finding it dificult to make the tiles look 'profesional'. I later found out that this was because I was applying too much ink to my lino and it was slipping and sliding everywhere and making the texture look 'dotty'. But once I used less ink the prints looked a lot better and didnt smudge.

Victoria Hough

I have been inspired by an artist called Victoria Hough. Alongside being a college lecturer she makes personalised canvases using textiles. I have included her in my work as it reminds me of House and Home. Vicky inspired me to print on to wood. And thats how I have had the idea to do an old fashioned wooden sign. I love the textiles part of it but the brief says I must do a print, but I will still use the style of Vicky.

Vicky has also done a print. This was a lino print which was in fact about 'House and Home' containing the phrase 'Home Sweet Home' the phrase I was planning to use.

Another Idea

Another idea I have had for this printing project is using image maker. Firstly when I got the printing brief I didn't originally think of using image maker I was thinking more of lino print, wood cut etc. but when I thought about it, I thought that image maker would be a good idea. Thinking about House and Home I was thinking about doing about my ancestors after I looked at my family tree (house and home -- home -- family -- family tree -- ancestors).  I could print my photo onto a pillow case. I would then work on to it, sewing etc.

When searching the internet I have come across an artist called Maria Walker.

This artist has inspired me to use text in my work on my ancestors idea.

Inspiration - House and Home

I was looking at a website called notonthehighstreet.com and I came across these marble pieces. This has given me the idea to do my prints on more than just paper. I am planning to print on to wood and on to tiles.

Going into more research I have gone into tile prints and came across Welbeck Tiles.

Another idea I have become very interested in is old fashioned wooden signs. I think this would be a brilliant thing to print and would like to see the results of printing onto wood.

To do this I will use a lino print and print onto a piece of plyboard. The reason I have chosen to use this type of wood is because when printed onto, you will still see the markings of the wood and will look like an old fashioned sign.
