Bracelet Ideas

For one of my pieces of jewellery I have had an idea to use bottle tops to create a bracelet. I am going to use the inside of the top to stick in pictures of my ancestors. On the other side of the bottle top to add lyrics or quotes. so on one side of the braclet I would have pictures of my ancestors and on the other words (quotes/lyrics).

I have found some bottle tops which are suitable for my idea.

I have then added photographs inside the bottle tops of my ancestors.

Africa

Thinking about the type of jewellery I would like to do, my initial though would be vintge/old looking jewellery but I have now been looking into the african culture.

I love these nacklaces theyre so interesting. I love how chunky and big they are.

I have noticed that when they wear jewellery it's to the extreme. Everything is so big and bold and they seem to wear a lot of it. I also like the color combinations they seem to wear a lot of red.

Looking into african culture it has mainly inspired me not be scared to go to extremes and do things big and bold!

Another part of african culture I have found very interesting and links into my project is the toys they make for the children. They use old bottles, tins, scrap metal, wood, anything they can find to make something new and exciting for the children.

Eclectic Eccentricity

Looking into my recycled jewellery idea I have come across Eclectic Eccentricity. This company makes jewelery, I dont think that this is recycled jewellry but it has that kind of feel as they use clocks and keys. I really love these pieces and they are the type of outcome I would like at the end of my project.

Kurt Schwitters

Kurt Schwitters reminds me of recycling/junk. To me it looks like his collages are made from scrap things like old letters, photos etc.

One Word Project

For our one word project we had to pick a word out of a hat and my word is trash. I initially thought of scrap yards but after speaking to my peers I got the idea of Hoarders.. people who keep hold of everything they buy/collect in their house.

Hoarder: Compulsive hoarding (or pathological collecting): a pattern of behavior that is characterized by the excessive acquisition of and inability or unwillingness to discard large quantities of objects that cover the living areas of the home and cause significant distress.

I then asked my peers what they hoard, or what they know other people hoard.. Here are some of them..
  • Paper/Plastic Bags
  • Tin Foil
  • Events Tickets
  • Birthday Cards
  • Old School Books
  • Teddy Bears
  • Jewelery
  • Scarvs
  • Digital Photographs
  • Note Pads
  • Videos (VHS player)
  • Books
Another thought for the word Junk is Junk food.

Looking on the internet I came across something called junk art/junk sculpture.

This has given me lots of inspiration to make a piece of art using wrappers and junk that I don't need. I also really like the idea of making jewellery out of junk...

I could make broaches, necklaces, bracelets, earring etc. I could use bottle tops, can tops, wooden pegs, key rings, sweet wrappers, buttons, scrabble pieces, lego, paper clips, cassett tapes, feathers, tape measure.

Editing

I have scanned my lino print on the marble to the computer. I then edited the hue/saturation in photoshop to give me a wide range of colours and to make them more vibrant.

Thoughts

This is the second to last day on my project and I am not feeling very confident. Im starting to think that changing my theme so close to the deadline was the wrong choice not only do I have limited time but I am still struggling with ideas for colour. So far I have done some marbling which I am pleased with as I am trying to achieve pieces which are very colourful and vibrant. But as this project is print I am struggling to create this. I have done a repeated lino print over the top of one of the marbling pieces which I am pleased with but it doesn't meet my expectations for a final piece. As I am running out of time I am thinking of doing a little book of mounted samples of colour and printing techniques.
