Tanzi Kant works with reclaimed textiles to make jewellery,
sourced from unwanted saris, scarves and dress-making off-cuts, which she combines
with hand-formed pieces of porcelain. Through techniques such as binding, knotting and
stitching, the fabrics are transformed, and in some pieces their original form
is visible, allowing the wearer to feel and remember the origins of the
material. The methods of wearing by draping, wrapping and knotting also refer
to the origins of the fabrics, such as the sari and scarf. I have included Tanvi in my work because she has inspired me to not just use junk in my project and given me the idea that I could 'reboot' old jewellery.
